Conferences |
Monday and Wednesday mornings: Departmental didactic conference including pediatric, IVP, morbidity and mortality and pathology conferences. During the IVP and pediatric conferences, the chief residents present cases to the junior residents. With the assistance of the attending and senior residents, the junior residents are guided through the workshop and management of urologic diseases. Dr. Greg MacLennan, a uropathologist, presents a didactic pathology conference monthly. |
Second Monday evenings: During journal club, members of the
faculty as well as practicing urologists from the community meet at one of the faculty member's homes to discuss selected articles from the previous month's Journal of Urology. |
Wednesday Mornings: Campbell’s Club: Residents rotate presenting 1-2 chapters per week from the Campbell-Walsh Urology textbook. All residents are expected to have read the chapter and have completed the questions submitted by the presenter the week prior. An outline of the chapters prepared by the presenter will be supplied to accompany the readings. |
Throughout the year, residents of all levels will have the opportunity to hone their skills in the animal lab. Routinely, residents gain experience doing both laparoscopic and open nephrectomies, cystectomies, ileal conduits, and closure techniques. Residents will participate in the animal lab monthly during their general surgery years, as well. |
Each resident will receive one copy of the Campbell-Walsh Urology textbook and one set of magnification loupes provided by the department, as well as reimbursement for conferences when presenting. |
