Dr. Armitage is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Case Western Reserve University and is the Vice Chair for Education and Residency Director in the Department of Internal Medicine. His primary profession focus has been on postgraduate medical education and clinical infectious diseases. Dr. Armitage currently serves as the Past President of the Council of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine. In 2002 he received the Parker J. Palmer Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medicine Education. His research interests include the process of care in community-acquired pneumonia. He has published a number of book chapters and peer reviewed articles. Dr. Armitage received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and attended medical school at the University of Colorado. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases fellowship at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals of Cleveland. He served as Chief Resident in the Department of Medicine 1991-1992 and joined the faculty at Case Western in 1992. He holds certification in internal medicine and infectious diseases from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In the School of Medicine, he has served on a number of committees, including the Committee on Students 2003-2007, the Committee on Medical Education 1999-2002 and the Faculty Council 1996-1999 and 2004-2007 (Chair 2006-2007). He is married and has three children under the age of 12.
